Straight-six 3.0 litre engine with Bi-Turbo charging

Utilising state-of-the-art engine technology the BMW ALPINA XD3 offers an unrivalled driving experience in this segment characterised by power, torque, dynamic handling and comfort. The engine’s character is best described by its excellent throttle response and willingness to rev up to the red-line, which is rather untypical for a diesel. The innovative BMW mild hybrid technology which features a 48-volt starter generator offers immediate throttle response and increased efficiency to effortlessly achieve long driving ranges in combination with a high performance output.

The straight-six 3.0 litre engine with Bi-Turbo charging offers a maximum output of 261 kW (355 hp). The maximum torque of 730 Nm (538 lb-ft) is available between 1750 and 2750 rpm for immediate power delivery in every driving situation. Accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds and on to a top speed of 254 km/h (158 mph)* means the BMW ALPINA XD3 is amongst the fastest in its segment.

*In combination with ALPINA CLASSIC 22“ forged wheels reduced top speed by approximately 5 km/h.

BMW mild hybrid technology

The mild hybrid technology adopted from BMW not only enhances the efficiency of the high-performance diesel engine but also its dynamic response. Recuperated energy is stored in a 48-volt battery and supplied as additional power by a belt-driven 48-volt starter generator. With electrical power of up to 8 kW (11 hp) instantly available, engine and throttle response are unparalleled, especially at low engine speeds. At constant speeds, the engine can operate in an optimised load range thanks to the support of the electrical system, further improving efficiency.

Performance in all situations

Performance oriented all-wheel drive transmits power to all four wheels. Based on the intelligent BMW xDrive system and featuring an ALPINA specific torque distribution, it guarantees maximum traction, neutral driving dynamics and high levels of safety.

The BMW ALPINA XD3 comes with an electronically controlled active rear limited slip differential. This improves traction when driving dynamically by ensuring that slip-induced losses are minimised and torque is distributed effectively to the wheel with the most grip at any given point in time. This further enhances driving dynamics, even in combination with all-wheel drive, and operates in conjunction with the ALPINA specific, rear-wheel biased, torque distribution.
